Frozen Ever After: Walt Disney World, Epcot Center builds ride to satisfy demand for fans of the highest grossing animated film ever
In 2013, Disney’s mega hit Frozen was released and the public was chomping at the bit for Frozen themed anything. Etsy shop owners made a killing as Disney merchandise was so sparse, even six months after the films release. As the highest grossing animated film ever, theaters extended the show time for what seemed like months! Our local theatre even aired a sing along version where thousands of kids watched the movie AGAIN and belted out the captioned lyrics along with Tony award winning Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell. We wanted it. We needed, Frozen themed EVERYTHING. During our visit to Walt Disney World in 2014 the newly launched character greeting was over a five hour wait time. We must have gone to 6 Frozen themed birthday parties within that year. It’s no surprise to me that Disney did some quick thinking to roll out a Frozen themed ride to quench the thirst of an Elsa obsessed public.
While the Frozen excitement has definitely died down over the past few years, we were still excited to check out the new themed ride in Epcot. We were lucky enough to score fast passes to “Frozen Ever After” during our January 2017 trip. Our other recent trips were not so lucky. So if you are looking to book, do it as soon as you can! 60 days ahead if you are staying on property 30 days if staying at a non-Disney hotel.
Blah, blah, blah Kelli- – tell us about the ride! Okay I’m getting there. Hold onto your horses!
Frozen Ever After, Epcot’s Newest Attraction
The ride is located in Epcot Center, Norway just around the corner from the Elsa and Anna meet and greet permanent location (also awesome). These new additions to Norway are beautiful. Just as you would expect them to be. Frozen Ever After is a flume ride. In fact, it’s a ride that you may have ridden if you visited Epcot’s Norway any time after 1988. That’s right, Disney Imagineer’s took the old “Maelstrom” ride and basically Frozenified it. Sure, that’s a word.
The revamp now includes all the favorite scenes from the movie. With AMAZING animatronic technology! The characters have these physical robot-esque bodies, but with LED screen like faces. Imagineers would be cringing over my description. But it really was amazing. If you can imagine riding through an animated film this is exactly what it felt like! The recreation of the setting and likeness of the characters were truly remarkable. And no one could possibly forget the powerful soundtrack which is piped through each scene. Toward the end of the ride the exhilaration kicks up as the boat flips backward, then forward again as it is sent down a steeper drop. So fun! It’s not a big ride like Splash Mountain, more of a Pirates of the Caribbean level thrill. It might be a spoiler to watch the point of view video supplied by Attractions Magazine below, but I can promise you it is way more impressive in person!
